This reunion tour show’s set list was almost entirely made up of stuff from before Lou Barlow got kicked out of the band, except for “The Wagon.” I guess even Lou will admit that’s a great song. There was a weird incident toward the end–someone kept bumping J’s microphone stand and it hit his teeth, and he flipped out and left for about two minutes. After that everything was icy at best, but “Freak Scene” live is always worth some stage tension.

The Decemberists / The Granada / Lawrence KS (September 20, 2005)

decemberists20050920.jpg

I don’t know anything about the Decemberists–I’m told they’re hip with the youngsters these days. I do like these flyers that are one-offs for the local show, and don’t rely on glossy publicity shots.

By the time this show rolled around, those awkward haircuts had grown out and looked darn cute. Just saying.

Also on the flyer: Morningwood, who you may know from their eponymously-titled song playing in the background of the “You gotta put Mercury on your list” commercials, and Brunette.
