In college, sophomore year, my roommate and I started (semi-obsessively) snagging flyers for upcoming shows from bulletin boards and telephone poles around town. It didn't really matter if we even liked the bands they advertised--we'd slap them up on our dorm room walls, which by the end of the school year had become a colorful homage to the early-90s Lawrence music scene.

We didn't room together the next year, and the collection was separated. Over time many of our prized artifacts were lost or destroyed. I took what I had left, stuck them in a trunk, and usually only got into them when I'd happen to see an interesting addition outside the bathroom of a club or something. Moving to Seattle in 2001 made things multiply like crazy, and I knew something had to be done to take care of my paper treasures.

I began this digitizing project in 2003 to share my little collection with others, originally by dumping HTML pages from iPhoto. It only took me a couple of years to realize that blogging software would be the perfect solution to making the collection sortable and searchable. All posters are entered in the database by the date of the show, and over time I intend on indexing by city, band, venue, or whatever else might prove to be convienent.

Oh--by and large, I was at most of these shows. And the originals have finally been given good homes in acid-free portfolios--all the better for annoying friends when they come to visit. And thanks to Randy Paske for helping me get some of these dates straight awhile back.
